Guam Energy Office has been very successful obtaining three consecutive special project federal grants to develop, implement, and refine the energy code requirements within the Guam Building Code Standards for commercial buildings. With the cooperation of Department of Public Works, the Energy Code is now part of the Guam Building Code Standards.
The Guam Building Energy Code establishes minimum energy-efficient requirements for the design and construction of new buildings and their equipment systems. Also, existing buildings undergoing major renovations along with their equipment systems must adhere to the Guam Building Energy Code enforced by Building Permits Division of Department of Public Works.
With our high cost of energy affecting our way of living and doing business in Guam, adopting energy saving measures to lower energy cost in our buildings will have long term benefits to our community.
GuamSoft, a software to check compliance with the energy code for building envelopes and lighting, is available free for you to download.
